John Tanner (August 15, 1778 – April 13, 1850) was a leading figure in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a chief financial backer of the.

  • Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on July 27, 1950, to William Coats Tanner Jr. and Athelia Sears Tanner, President Tanner grew up in South Pasadena, California.
  • Tanner has served in the LDS Church as a bishop and stake president.
  • John Sears Tanner was serving as mission president of the Brazil São Paulo South Mission when he was called as the first counselor in the Sunday School general.
  • John Tanner was raised in Southern California, one of a large and happy family of thirteen children.
